From Brief to Build: Alfred’s Freelance Web Design Process
When someone comes to me with an idea for a website, I like to think of it as a creative journey we’re about to take together. Every project starts with a the breath of life: your project idea. From there, it’s my job to transform those goals into something functional, beautiful, and built to last. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at my freelance web design process — from first hello to final launch (and beyond).
Step 1: First Contact
It all begins when you visit my website, alfredfox.com, and request a free website design and development quote. I always respond within 24 hours — whether by email or phone (if you prefer a call).
This stage is all about discovery. I gather as much information as possible about your project – what you are looking for, your vision, and your goals — and I start sketching a plan to bring it all to life. Think of it as building a map before we start the road trip.
Step 2: Design Time
Once we’re on the same page, I get to the fun part: design.
- I create mockups of the initial design and send them to the client.
- If they already have a logo and branding, I weave those elements into the new design.
- If they don’t, no problem—I’ll create a fresh logo and branding package to set them up for success.
This part is always collaborative. We go back and forth until the client is happy with the look and feel. Once they give me the thumbs up, it’s time to roll up my sleeves and start building the website.
Step 3: Development
Here’s where the approved designs turn into a real, working site. Using the mock-ups as a guide, I handle the website development with clean, efficient code. I keep communication open the whole way through — nobody likes surprise twists in the plot when it comes to their website.
Whether it’s a brand-new website, a custom web application, or updates to an existing project, my goal is the same: keep things clean and simple, without unnecessary complications.
Step 4: Launch & Hand-off
Once the site is complete and you are thrilled with the results, I package everything neatly into a media kit. That includes:
- Design assets (logo, branding, source files, etc.)
- Help with securing web hosting (if needed)
- Publishing your site / app to your hosting provider
And when everything is live… we celebrate. I think high-fives are in order.
Step 5: Ongoing Support
Just because a site is launched doesn’t mean the story ends there. Websites are living things — they grow, evolve, and sometimes need a tune-up. That’s why I offer ongoing website maintenance and updates, tailored to your needs
Wrapping It Up
At the end of the day, my freelance website design process is all about collaboration, clarity, and making sure the final product truly supports the client’s goals. From that first “hello” to the final launch and beyond, I’m here to make the journey smooth, professional, and (hopefully) a little fun along the way.
Because building a website shouldn’t feel like pulling teeth—it should feel like building something awesome together.
